About Vimal’s Art....
Artists have always been observing and portraying the nature and its surroundings since the earliest of times. For a long time, however, attention had been focused on recording of few details in a symbolic way and as the elements of the nature exists. When we study about the Landscape Artists, we find that in earlier time, most of the artists used to paint the nature in a realistic way also. The “Expressionist” and “Impressionist” artists felt that beauty of nature is not only in its surroundings, but the beauty is hidden and it is his duty to unfold that beauty. Since then, the artists made efforts to explore and unfold the facts and the beauty of the nature by using different styles and techniques. In contemporary scenario, there are many artist who paint nature in abstract and unique style, Vimal is among one of them who is continuously exploring the nature on his canvas but his technique is quite different which gives an abstract as well as a realistic feeling to the viewer.
Reality and fantasy are the main keys of Vimal’s portrayal of landscapes which he converts into an abstract painting. If we see it deeply, it’s not an easy task, but he has been doing it for a long time. He started with the realistic approach of landscapes but very soon realized that the realistic approach became a big hurdle for his artistic quest. He didn’t want to play only on the surface, but he wanted to explore the real beauty of nature and of human life which was almost disappeared from that time of works. A common man can only see the surface or whatever has been displayed on the canvas without feeling the depth and minute details of that piece of work but an artist has a different vision. An artist can feel the depth of the inner world of nature and human life and portray the same in their work. It’s the artist only who is capable of unveiling the secrets of nature. And this is how Vimal display nature in a different way on his canvas......
He never tried to restrict himself as an expressionist or as an impressionist artist; he is continuously making efforts to unfold the beauty of nature on canvas with the maximum effects, and he adopts abstract style with a realistic illusion. An illusion is always based on fantasy but none of the fantasy is born without reality. To see the reality of life and nature differs from person to person. Vimal tried to create whatever he feel more than the seeing.
In Vimal’s works, colour constitutes the basic alphabet of nature. He writes a visual script that only a nature lover can decipher. Viewers can identify an impressionists approach in his paintings, but this will be a hastily conclusion. Vimal’s landscapes are the subject of feelings rather than just a picture to see. His landscapes are totally the imagination of an artist who always thinks about nature. I always got surprised that whenever I see his paintings, I find a new joy every time. Vimal’s canvas is a vast field, where pigments are not let loose to play their game, as happened with many abstract artists, but they are controlled by artist. They play pranks spraying energy, meander through mystical routes and then exhausted, sublimate. It is hard to tell, how his love began with colours, or, how colours found a way to his palette. He completed MFA at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, and gained confidence to use warm colours after visiting different places in country. And that’s how his journey with colours began and flourished.
His paintings are a fusion of realism and abstraction. In the absence of any lines, how he visualises the canvas in all colour, is a mystery. There is an unending dialogue on his canvas; the dialogue between what is perceived by his imagination and what is seen by the physical eye. Slowly, that dialogue transforms into the symphony of colours, and a well composed music appeared on the canvas. He discovered his own techniques and tools after a long struggle with canvases. Art is a matter of heart and feeling, technique supports to expressions only. He never allowed any technique to affect his feelings. He used that to create light and dark effect as well as depth in paintings. Sometimes his paintings look more realistic than the reality but it happens rarely...
Vimal did a different composition where the sky may be hiding behind the trees. Mountains and rivers are not his subject, he just try to capture the beauty of nature, and for that he feels that the lust trees are sufficient, even flowers are not necessary; which comes in his paintings sometime as a patches of colours only.
Vedpraksh Bhardwaj.
I always have a strong bond with nature. Since beginning, different objects of nature have always attracted me. My boyhood has been spent trudging the trails of Jahan Panah City Forest. Here I have developed a close intimacy with the Nature. The pools of water reflecting with the sky and trees; green dewy trees dancing with the wind; the joyful and playful movements of birds; sun-rays paving their way through thick trees and bushes; evening and morning skies in different hues always touched my soul. Sitting under the grove, I always felt that I am also an Integral part of this nature; the soul which runs through these objects runs through me also...
To commune with the nature, seems to me, to commune with the divinity. Sometimes I praise and feel this saying, “Why are you so restless? I am always with you; walk with me, hand in hand to the eternity. Then this love of Nature starts flowing itself on the canvas.
From my young age, I have been attracted by the colourful objects of nature and would always prefer to go to remote jungles to enjoy the colour, vibrations and different moods of nature, which brought me the peace of mind. You would be surprised to know that I have been picking up the colourful pebbles on the hilly roads and from the streamlets. The fact is that from the very young age, I have been attracted by the magnetic colours and objects of nature.
I have realized that Nature has a curative power. Varied environmental atmospheres also have an impact on the living beings in different areas which are due to the colours of the flora and fauna around them.
In my recent works, I have tried to depict the different moods of nature. My paintings are based mainly on the fundamental elements of this environment such as Air, Water, Soil, Vegetation etc. If you see my paintings closely, you can feel the freshness of breeze; coolness of water and can enter the dense forest walking through the narrow pathways.
My favourite medium is acrylic and my motto is ‘Back to Nature’
